THE SHORT ANSWER
Some of the links on What's Worn are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra.
We think you should know how we make money before you spend money because of our recommendation, so this page is short, specific and near the top of the site rather than buried at the bottom.
WHAT AN AFFILIATE LINK IS
When you click a link on What's Worn to a retailer, we add a tracking code to that link. The code tells the retailer "this visitor came from What's Worn".
If you go on to buy something, the retailer pays us a small commission. That commission is how What's Worn pays for its hosting, its research and the hundreds of hours that go into tracking what AFL and AFLW players are actually wearing.
The tracking code does not change what you see or what you pay. The price is the same whether you click our link or type the retailer's website address yourself. We do not add a mark-up, a service fee or an "affiliate price".
WHO PAYS US
We take part in affiliate programmes, currently with:
- Commission Factory — the affiliate network that connects us with Australian sports retailers.
- Impact.com — the affiliate network that connects us with international and direct brand retailers.
The retailers themselves (for example Rebel Sport) pay the commission when a purchase completes. They do not pay us to feature a product, and they do not pay us to change a rating. Some links may go directly to a brand's own store.
We may add or remove retailers at any time, so the specific retailer on a given page can change.
HOW TO SPOT AN AFFILIATE LINK
On this Site, an affiliate link looks like one of these:
- A "Shop Now" or "Buy at" button, usually on a player's page or a boot's page.
- A retailer link in a guide or article.
- A note saying the link opens the retailer's site in a new tab.
A link is an affiliate link whenever it takes you to a retailer and carries our tracking code — including when it drops you on a category page rather than the exact product. If you are ever unsure whether a link is an affiliate link, assume it is, and email us to ask.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO
This part matters as much as the money side, so here it is in plain terms:
- We do not charge you more. No mark-ups, no fee, no inflated price.
- We do not sell advertising space and we do not run display ads.
- We do not accept payment to feature a player, a team, a brand or a product. Coverage is decided by what is actually being worn, not by commercial relationships.
- We do not take payment to change a rating, a review score or a comparison. Our scores are our own editorial assessment and are not for sale.
- We do not write about a product because a retailer paid us to. If we do not think something is worth knowing about, we do not write about it — even if the commission is good.
- We do not guarantee that a product is available, in stock, or the price shown. That is the retailer's business, and the retailer's terms govern the sale.
If a retailer ever pressures us to change what we say, we would rather lose the commission. A site that tells you what boots your favourite player is wearing is only worth reading if it is telling you the truth.
WHAT WE ACTUALLY THINK OF THE BOOTS
Our ratings and feature write-ups are our own editorial opinion, formed from the product's design, materials and construction, and from the context of how the boot is actually used in Australian football. They are not customer reviews, and they are not affected by whether a retailer pays us.
Where we have made a mistake, we correct it. If you spot one, tell us.
YOUR PURCHASE
If you click one of our links, your purchase is made with the retailer, not with What's Worn. The retailer's own terms of sale, shipping, warranty, returns and privacy policy apply to that transaction. We are not a party to it and cannot help you with an order, a delivery or a refund — please contact the retailer directly.
